“Let us sit by the fire and munch on S’more.” - unknown
Is it Tailgate Season? Do you need a fun and easy dessert to put on the grill? I have a fun and easy dessert for you to try. It’s S’mores of course but it is just more than S’mores – it’s a S’mores Dip.
With September 22nd being the first day of fall, I know some friends of mine are pretty bummed that summer is coming to an end. Even though summer is ending you can still hold onto the “Flavors of Summer.” Heck, you can do this any time – don’t we have a Christmas in July for all those “Eggnog Lovers,” and yes, we do! So just grab yourself some chocolate, marshmallows, graham crackers and extra whatever's you want to add – because it’s all good, anytime of the year.
I have to tell you, my son said the sweetest thing to me, as I was downloading the pictures, I took from the football game. He said, “Mom, I was so proud of you taking pictures of the football game – until you wiped out!” I busted out laughing! “You saw that,” I replied. “Yes mom, the whole school saw you,” and everyone yelled at me saying, “Your mom fell!”
Yep, I wiped out! If you know me well – you should know that I am “one of those people,” that fall up the stairs, or walk right into a wall. I never said I was graceful, but I do know when to laugh and this was one of those moments -to laugh at oneself.
You do have to give me some grace here – I was looking through my zoom lens and “Objects seem closer than they appear,” but if I didn’t move, they would have nailed me. I wiped out without getting run over, and I can laugh about what had happened - so did my sons when their friends arrived at my house.
Roast a S’mores party.
My son had some friends over – for a camp out in the backyard. Rick and my son put up the tent for the backyard, aired up the air mattresses and got out extra sleeping bags.
Oh yes - a Fudge Stripe Cookies can be used.
This was the first time my son didn’t grumble about picking up after the dogs in the backyard, and he wanted everything just right. He helped plan the evening with the food & drinks and activities. Yes – the table was set up with cups and ping pong balls. The boys filled them with punch, but one had a different concoction of liquids, and no one wanted the punch mixed with ketchup and of course that was the one they all wanted to toss the ping pong balls into.
When you have a campout in the backyard for a bunch of teenagers – what’s the first thing you put on your list to buy at the store for them to eat? Hotdogs will be the number one answer here but the other is S’mores!
I did write a story two years ago on S’mores making it a charcuterie board with different cookies and chocolates. S’mores has come a long way from being just chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers. It’s all about getting creative with different cookies, like fudge strips, Oreos, oatmeal cookies and yes, the graham crackers for those who want to stay with the Classic S’mores.
If you can have fun with the cookies – why not have some fun with chocolate! The white chocolate, the Oreo Hershey’s, and my favorite and seemed to be the boy’s favorite – Rolos! The caramel in the chocolate Rolo gave the S’mores an extra Yummy Goodness with the melted marshmallow. You just can’t beat a S’mores charcuterie board!
While I was getting the charcuterie board ready, I had an idea.
Just a bunch of goodies for S'mores Dip.
Just break of the graham crackers for the bottom of the pan for the S'mores Dip.
I went ahead and made two S'mores Dip. One was broken up Hershey chocolate bar and the other was Rolos.
Why not roast S'mores with all these different cookies and chocolates?
Oh - Yum and S'more some Fun!! Doesn't this picture look pretty of the S'mores Dip.
Oh yes - a Fudge Stripe Cookies can be used.
Now just take a cookie or a graham cracker and just dip away. I know you will "Enjoy the S'mores Dip!!"
Or you can use an Oreo with white chocolate inside. The combinations are endless!!
Oh - I almost forgot!! Push a Rolo into the marshmallow before you roast. The melted caramel in the Rolo goes perfectly with the marshmallow.

Why not make this easier for those that wish to camp out and tailgate. Yes, I have seen the S’mores Dip that you put on a skillet, and I wanted to try it myself, but I really didn’t want to clean up my skillet afterwards. I don’t know if the marshmallow or the melted chocolate would come out of the skillet - this is for those who make a steak on a skillet.
The main reason I used an aluminum foil pan was for easy clean up. When you have a lot going on, you just want to toss the aluminum pan in the garbage when finished. This was so much easier than washing off a skillet.
Time for Campfire and S’mores.
Ingredients: - Do you really need a list of ingredients?
Here are some helpful suggestions:
Note: It looks absolutely beautiful having S’mores roasting on a grill in a skillet on the pictures I have seen on social media, but I just didn’t want that extra mess. Bonus – clean-up was wonderful with an aluminum foil pan.
It’s that time – Orey Family Score. What’s the Orey Family Score you would ask if you’re new to reading my cooking column. It’s when I let my family score my food, I make them with a score from 1-10 and 10 is the winner. A score of 6 and lower I don’t make again, and I have made some bad scores.
I thought, “What better way to have a bunch of teenagers tell me what they thought about the S’mores Dip.”
First this is S’mores, so you know it’s a FUN 10. When I asked, “Did you like the Rolos in the dip?”
“I thought that was pretty good,” said a teenager. “More fun to make your own,” said another. “This was a creative way to mix it all up,” one said, then, they all agreed that it was a very creative way to have S’mores, and it was good. The Rolos S’more Dip was the favorite because that was the one, they ate up first.
